Developed for the USAF, the SD-3 Sherpa is specifically designed to operate from unpaved runways and make STOL landings. It features a large, full-width rear cargo door/ramp for all Paradrop/Cargo operations. It also has two side doors for spotting and jump operations.

Mainly used for short-haul freight, airborne operations and skydiving, the Skyvan has excellent STOL characteristics. This makes it very stable in flight for paratroop maneuvers and suitable to operate from rugged runways.
